Welcome to the WATCH D.O.G.S. National Platform
After thousands of programs and millions of dad-days, the WATCH D.O.G.S. program is moving onto a single national platform. Here is what is changing, what is staying the same, and what to do today.
Twenty-five years after the first WATCH D.O.G.S. program started in a single elementary school in Springdale, Arkansas, the program now reaches thousands of schools across all 50 states, six international markets, and the Department of Defense schools serving military families overseas. That is a lot of dads in a lot of hallways.
Until now, every one of those programs has run independently. Sign-ups happened on paper. Top Dogs kept calendars in three-ring binders. HQ heard about the network through a yearly directory and word of mouth. The day on campus has always been excellent. The infrastructure around it has not.
Today we are changing that.
One platform, the same program
The WATCH D.O.G.S. National Platform brings every program onto a single, polished system for sign-up, scheduling, check-in, communications, and reporting. The program itself is exactly the same. A dad still walks in on a Tuesday morning, gets his rotation from the Top Dog, and spends the day being present for kids who need a positive male role model around. We are not changing the soul of it.
We are changing the parts that have been making programs tired:
- Paper sign-up sheets become a tap on the phone.
- The Top Dog's binder becomes a clean roster and calendar.
- "Did anyone do a background check on this volunteer?" becomes a single status field with the date, the vendor, and the expiration.
- "Hey, who is signed up for Friday?" becomes a glance at the program dashboard.
What changes for a dad
Almost nothing. You still find your school. You still pick a day. You still show up.
What is different is the friction in between. Once your program is on the platform you will get a six-character passcode (it looks like AR1001 or TX1234). Enter it at dads.gs to land on your school's program page. From there you can:
- Create a profile and e-sign the waiver and code of conduct.
- See the open days on the calendar.
- Tap to claim a shift.
- Get a reminder the night before.
- Check in at school using QR or the iPad kiosk at the front desk.
If your school is not yet on the platform, do not worry. Your existing process keeps working. The platform rolls out program by program.
What changes for a Top Dog
A lot, all of it good. Calendar set-up that used to take a Saturday morning of binder math now takes ten minutes. Comms that used to require a phone tree become a single tap. Background-check reminders go out automatically. Year-end roll-forward keeps your active dads, retires alumni, and rolls your calendar to next year without you having to think about it.
We also added a "we are short on Friday" broadcast button. Top Dogs across the country asked for it.
What changes for HQ
For the first time, the national program has a clean view of itself. Network health, compliance gaps, top-moving programs, expiring background checks, the morning briefing. We can finally answer the simple questions about scope and impact that the program has earned the right to answer.
That visibility is also why the platform is opt-in. Programs adopt because the new way is better than the old way, not because anyone is forcing it. Our job is to make it that good.
What stays the same
The mission. The day on campus. The gold WATCH D.O.G.S. shirt at the front of the school. The waving from the front office. The dad reading with a small group in the corner of the library at 9:42 on a Wednesday morning.
That is the whole program. The platform exists so that day can happen with a lot less of everything else.
What to do today
If you are a dad: ask your school's Top Dog or front office for your program's passcode. Then enter it on the homepage.
If you are a Top Dog: keep an eye on your inbox. We are rolling onboarding out region by region; HQ will reach out with claim instructions and a setup call invite.
If you are at a school without a program: use the Start a Program form. We have helped do this thousands of times and we will help you do it once.
If you are at a school district that wants a rollup view across all your schools: we are rolling out the District tier in the coming weeks. Drop us a note and we will loop you in.
For every student, in every school, we are excited to keep showing up.
